Icelandic frozen fish company nets CATS as its new financial system provider

Oct 2005

At Eagle Seafood Ltd it was decided by its Icelandic owner that it was time to improve the company's management reporting and enhance stock control. The company needed a complex stock control system that could report on the profitability of batches of same product over a given period of time. They also wanted a reseller that would provide an outstanding level of service as they had been "stung in the past".

CATS (Computerised Accounting-The Solution) was asked to implement a system to fulfill the company's overall requirements.

Eagle Seafood utilise batch stock to allow for incoming shipments to be allocated by the case to customers. The use of this stock valuation method provides batch profitability reporting and stock aging to case level by coldstore location. The batch stock price will be calculated in cases as opposed to weight; in addition there was a requirement to create an uplift plug-in for duty and levy to increase the value of stock once imported to take account of these additional costs in the stock valuation.

Serial and batch number tracking can be performed on specific stock items. Drill-down provides unsurpassed access to the original transactions where a serial or batch item was bought, stored and sold.

CATS also developed a transport matrix programme whereby the frozen fish deliveries, being shipped around the country, can be fully scheduled for the transport company being used. Each consignment being shipped will hold detail of the batches to be delivered, on what dates and provide all the necessary paperwork. All this is controlled through either the Grimsby or Lincoln offices of Eagle Seafood as the system has a complete real time remote access facility. The matrix then creates the purchase order within the core system and allows electronic transfer of the paperwork to the haulier and coldstore for stock release notification.

Eagle have improved their stock control, valuation and ageing, as well as their profitability reporting by customer, stock line and individual case of product.
