The Gelder Group selects CATS to build a successful future

The successful construction group headed by MD Steve Gelder MBE operates through seven divisions consisting of Major Contracts, Design & Build, Small Works & Maintenance, New Homes, Structural Solutions, Insurance Repairs & Renovations and Plumbing Heating & Ventilation.

With turnover growing by an average of 20% a year, the Gelder Group outgrew their old accounts system, and asked CATS to help build a system that would provide accurate management information to keep track of costings and profitability, and cope with the continued expansion and increasing complexity of the business.

When utilising the Construction suite provided by CATS, the Gelder Group uses the job costing module to account for well over 6000 projects a year ranging from small repairs costing a few hundred pounds to major projects costing millions of pounds. Accurate and judicious input of data allows Russell Cunliffe, the Financial Director, to keep a tight control of the organisation's finances, and to report on a timely basis the performance of the Group.

CATS have assisted the Group in achieving the implementation objectives including creating a number of input systems that cut out manual or duplicate processes, and providing access to information through OLE by non-accounting staff.

Other processes such as labour costs billed to each project on a weekly timesheet are automatically inputted into the Job Costing system as part of the Payroll routine along with entering the costs through to the Nominal ledger thereby ensuring accurate and timely data.

The Gelder Group have recently linked 'Hire Mate' to the main system to account for its business in local hire facilities of equipment and for building materials.
